Dinnissen acquires Rotoflo™ technology for reliable silo discharge
Dinnissen Process Technology has acquired the intellectual property and technology rights of Rotoflo™, a silo discharge system developed for reliable, controlled and vibration-free discharge across a wide range of powders, granules and bulk solids, from free-flowing materials to cohesive and difficult-flowing products. With this addition, Dinnissen strengthens its portfolio for storage, silo discharge and bulk solids handling applications.
Rotoflo™ is designed for products and processes where consistent discharge from silos is critical. The system uses a rotating discharge mechanism to actively move material towards the discharge points, helping prevent bridging, rat-holing and product build-up inside silos. A key advantage is the Multi-Flow Outlet design, which allows one silo to feed up to four independent downstream destinations.
From free-flowing to difficult-flowing bulk solids
Bulk solids can behave very differently in storage. Free-flowing materials still require controlled and predictable discharge, while other products can compact under storage pressure, absorb moisture or build up against the silo wall. In practice, changing flow behaviour can lead to inconsistent dosing, production interruptions and inefficient use of silo capacity.
Rotoflo™ supports continuous and controlled product flow across this wide range of materials. Its rotating discharge mechanism provides consistent discharge for free-flowing products and offers particular value when materials become cohesive, compacted or otherwise difficult to handle.
reliable discharge across a wide range of bulk solids
Unlike conventional systems that depend on vibration or aeration, Rotoflo™ actively moves material towards the discharge points. Its rotating mechanism supports a controlled and consistent material flow, without the need to vibrate the silo structure.
This vibration-free approach can help minimize wear and stress on the silo structure while improving discharge reliability. Key benefits include reliable discharge of difficult-flowing products, near-complete silo emptying, suitability for large storage volumes, retrofit installation in most steel silos and maintenance access without emptying the silo.
Rotoflo™ can also be configured with up to four outlets, allowing one silo to feed multiple downstream destinations where required. Available options include stainless steel construction, ATEX-certified execution, multiple outlet configurations, variable-speed drives, hygienic designs for food and dairy applications and integration with downstream process equipment.
Built for a wide range of bulk solids applications
Rotoflo™ is suitable for sectors where powders, granules and bulk solids need to be discharged reliably from storage silos, regardless of whether the material is free-flowing or more challenging to handle. Relevant markets include Food & Pharma, Petfood, Feed & Aquafeed, Chemicals & Minerals, Water Treatment and Paint & Coatings.
Typical applications span a broad range of flow characteristics, including sugar, chocolate crumb, pet food ingredients, titanium dioxide, activated carbon, hydrated lime, starches, minerals and other powders and granulates. Rotoflo™ also provides additional control where products are affected by compaction, moisture absorption, cohesive behaviour or high storage pressures.
A logical addition to the Dinnissen portfolio
The acquisition of Rotoflo™ fits closely with Dinnissen’s role as a system integrator for production processes involving powders, grains and granulates. Dinnissen has more than 75 years of experience in developing machines, standalone systems and complete production lines for process industries worldwide.
As part of the Dinnissen portfolio, Rotoflo™ can be integrated into complete production processes. In addition to silo discharge, Dinnissen provides pneumatic conveying systems, screw conveyors, feeding and weighing systems, lump breakers, sieving systems and process automation and control.
By combining Rotoflo™ with downstream process equipment, Dinnissen can support customers from storage and discharge through to further handling and processing.
Service, support and future development
Existing Rotoflo™ users can continue to rely on professional service and spare parts supply through Dinnissen. This provides continuity for companies already using the technology in their production processes.
As part of the transition, Steven Kennedy has joined Dinnissen from Severfield as Product Manager Rotoflo™. With his extensive experience with the Rotoflo™ technology and its applications, Steven brings valuable product knowledge to Dinnissen and helps ensure continuity for existing users and future projects.
At the same time, Dinnissen will invest in the further development of the Rotoflo™ platform. Using the D-Innocenter test facilities, the company will explore new applications, configurations, materials and hygienic designs for the evolving demands of the process industry.
“Rotoflo™ combines versatility with reliable, controlled discharge across a wide range of bulk solids, from free-flowing materials to products that become difficult to handle,” says Dan Baxter, Director of Dinnissen UK Operations. “Its vibration-free operation and the ability to feed multiple downstream processes from one silo make it a practical solution for a broad range of storage and handling applications.”
